About Me

Amy Siegel MA, MLS

I have worked as a university teacher of writing and literature, a middle and high school English teacher, a high school learning specialist,  and a private academic coach. I have advanced degrees in English Writing and Literature and also in Young Adult Librarianship. I  have extensive training in learning differences (including certifications in Jemicy's Orton-Gillingham programs, Bill Stixrud's, "Strategies for Learning,"  and Jodi Sleeper Triplett's ADD Coaching).  I teach advanced Orton-based reading strategies, structured grammar and writing programs, advanced reading and writing programs, and study/executive function skills.  I love working with students one-on-one because individualized attention can yield transformative results. I work with all kinds of students, but especially secondary and college students and those who identify as twice-exceptional.  I am a former board member of the DC International Dyslexia Association and a member of the Learning Disabilities Association. Please contact me if you would like to learn how academic coaching can help your students gain confidence and earn grades that better reflect their potential.  Please see my testimonials on this website.

If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way he learns.
